Welcome to SQL Squid Game – a free educational game that's inspired by Netflix's Squid Game, SQL Murder Mystery, and a few other SQL Games we love to play.
You've just been hired as a Data Scientist by the mysterious Squid Game organization. The Front Man who runs the Squid Games promised you a fully remote job where you'll unlock cross-functional synergies with Generative AI. But in typical data industry fashion, you've been bait-and-switched. Turns out that the role is more about Product Analytics in SQL, and the job's not fully remote, it's hybrid: 5 days in office required, with 2 days optionally remote.
Before you can even complain on r/DataScience about the gig, the Front Man puts a gun to your head and starts demanding answers to various business questions. You must write SQL queries to answer him – or else.
Already know how to play? Click the button below to start Level 1. But, if you need a quick tutorial, then keep reading.
A sample query will be provided to you in each level. Hit the run button below the query to see it's output.
For each level, you will be given a problem statement, along with one or more tables and their schema. You will be given a basic input cell (like the one above), and a solution cell, where you need to submit your final solution to see if it's output matches the solution's output. Each level gets harder, so don't worry if you start to struggle or make mistakes.
To succeed in SQL Squid Games, you will need to know SQL. To learn SQL for free from scratch, here's 33 interactive SQL Tutorials to learn everything you need to know about winning the SQL Games.
With all this out of the way, let's jump into the first challenge!
